Zion Hill Senior Housing Wins USGBC Award

SWBR and Sustainable Comfort, Inc. are pleased to announce that Zion Hill Senior Housing has received the  Outstanding Building Design & Construction Award by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) New York Upstate Board.  The award is given for a LEED Building Design and Construction project that demonstrates the use of new technologies and strategies to push the envelope of green design and meet project challenges in an innovative way while meeting USGBC’s vision of proving the value of working together for a built environment that is ecologically, socially, and economically healthy, resilient, and prosperous for all.

Zion Hill Senior Housing, a partnership between Rochester Management, Inc. and Zion Hill Missionary Baptist Church, was created to allow aging residents to stay in their neighborhood. Located on vacant urban lots in Rochester, NY, the new 45,000 SF community offers 45 affordable senior apartments, with seven reserved for frail elderly with special needs. Certified LEED for Homes Gold, the apartment community boasts energy efficient features such as LED lighting, Energy Star certified appliances, and high-efficiency furnaces and condensing units for heating and cooling.

The design team will receive the award at the USGBC Leadership Awards celebration Thursday, November 2 at the Rail Line in Syracuse, NY.
