Located in Liverpool, NY, GreeningUSA advocates for sustainable communities to the benefit of local economies and environments. The group’s annual “Sustaining our Community Awards” recognizes efforts of persons, organizations, or businesses within the community that have made a significant contribution to creating a sustainable future.
SWBR’s Matt Lupiani, along with local entrepreneur and urban interventionist Michael Heagerty, were recognized in the Community Enrichment category for the Syracuse PARKlets projects. PARKlets are public seating platforms that convert curbside parking spaces into vibrant downtown community spaces. The mobile outdoor seating option helped pandemic-affected Downtown Syracuse businesses and restaurants expand their dining space during the pandemic. Heagerty created “PARKlets for the People of Syracuse” to raise money to build the structures for Syracuse businesses.
GreeningUSA presented the awards in a virtual ceremony May 7.
