SWBR Receives National Recognition for Golisano Community Engagement Center

Roberts Wesleyan University Golisano Community Engagement Center has received an Outstanding Project Award in Learning By Design Magazine’s Spring 2024 Educational Facilities Design Awards Showcase.

The design of the new center was recognized for its incorporation of next generation learning space design and planning methodologies. The jury found the project’s built environment characteristics are “worthy of replication by other educators and design professionals who create, have oversight of, and operate spaces for learning.”

Completed in 2022, the center is a hub for connection, community interaction and student life resources. Made possible with a grant from the Golisano Foundation, it is the University’s first building that provides much-needed student gathering space not tied to specific majors. In addition to offering centralized meeting space that fosters student interaction, it houses training programs, including the college’s newly launched Community Institutes, and provides easy access to career development and student-life resources.

“The sophisticated interior palette, punctuated with warm tones, creates a welcoming ambiance for everyday activities and larger events alike,” commented the five-person jury. “Serving as a hub for community-university collaboration, the facility fosters networking opportunities and mutual enrichment.  Despite pandemic-related challenges, the design-build team and client demonstrated resilience, resulting in a beautiful exterior that complements the sophisticated interior.”
