SWBR Celebrates Groundbreaking for Johnson Park Green Community Apartments in Utica, NY

On June 21, our design team joined state and local officials to celebrate the groundbreaking for Johnson Park Green Community Apartments.

Ideally situated around the Johnson Park Center Green in Utica, New York, the new 62-unit housing community consists of three residential buildings and one community building for residents and the surrounding Utica community. The affordable housing community will also include supportive units for vulnerable seniors. The project, designed to meet Passive House standards, achieved Phius precertification in 2023 and was selected as a winner in NYSERDA’s Buildings of Excellence Competition in 2021.

“Johnson Park Green Community Apartments will provide affordable, energy-efficient homes and a new hub for the community that builds upon our ongoing investments in Utica,” NYS Governor Kathy Hochul.

The project is being co-developed by Rockabill Consulting and Johnson Park Center. SWBR is providing architectural, landscape architecture, and structural engineering design services.
