On October 3, our design team joined Rochester’s Cornerstone Group and state and local officials to celebrate the ribbon cutting for Marketplace Senior Apartments, a $52 million, new 150-unit all-electric affordable apartment building on a vacant parcel on the Marketplace Mall campus, a local shopping center and transportation hub in the town of Henrietta, Monroe County.
Genesis Housing Development Corporation (HFA Applicant) and Rochester’s Cornerstone Group, Ltd. co-developed the community to help address the critical need for affordable senior housing. The project aligns with both organizations’ commitment to addressing the increasing need for affordable and accessible housing. The building’s location gives residents access to local amenities including retail, medical and recreational services, as well as transportation to downtown and surrounding Monroe County communities.
“Marketplace Senior Apartments provides critically-needed senior housing, while contributing to the revitalization of Henrietta’s Marketplace Mall by utilizing space that has been vacant for more than 20 years to create 150 affordable apartments,” New York State Homes and Community Renewal Commissioner RuthAnne Visnauskas
The development includes 45 supportive senior units set aside for frail seniors 55 and older within a four-story building. The remaining 105 non-supportive units in the building will be occupied by senior households. Supportive services will be provided to 45 residents through Empire States Supportive Housing Initiatives (ESSHI) program with the services provided by Catholic Charities Family and Community Services. Amenities include a fitness center, common balcony, patio, community room, and multiple lounge areas.
SWBR provided architecture, interior design, landscape architecture, and structural engineering services for the project.
