We’re excited to welcome new and returning 2022 summer interns to the firm! Manny Anderson, Charles Bruce, A.J. Niles, and Kyle Taylor are interning at our Rochester office, while Zach Wiekierak is spending his summer at our Troy office.
Rochester Institute of Technology student Manny Anderson accepted a summer internship after winning the 2021 SWBR sponsored scholarship through the Urban League of Rochester. What excites him about architecture is seeing how different buildings will look 20 years in the future. Outside of work, he enjoys working out and anything that will keep him active. He is majoring in Engineering Exploration and is expected to graduate in 2026.
Fourth-year intern Charles Bruce, a previous Urban League of Rochester SWBR scholarship winner, is assisting our Housing studio on multi-family housing projects. On interning at SWBR, “I enjoy the knowledge I’m gaining in design and digital modeling, going out on site visits, and working with the team again.” His interest in art and making things drew Charles to architecture, but his decision was made after taking part in AIA’s Explorer Program, often hosted at SWBR. He is an architecture student at Virginia Tech and is graduating in 2023.
As an intern in our Structural department, A.J. Niles is enjoying learning about the processes and steps to design, construct, and complete projects as well as the challenges presented by them. A.J. became interested in a career in engineering after taking high school engineering courses. In his free time, he likes playing soccer. He is studying Civil Engineering at the University at Buffalo and is expected to graduate in 2024.
Returning for his third summer internship, Kyle Taylor has been working on corporate, commercial, education, and housing projects. It was the process of creating buildings – drawing, collaborating with peers, and working with bright people – that drew Kyle to architecture. He was originally offered an internship after winning the SWBR sponsored scholarship from the Urban League of Rochester. Outside of work, he enjoys playing sports, spending time with loved ones, and staying positive. He is expected to graduate from Alfred State College with a Bachelor of Architecture in 2024.
Zach Wiekierak is a Master of Architecture student at the University at Buffalo. He was drawn to architecture for its opportunity to help design the community and create your surroundings. What excites him about the future of architecture is the growing focus on sustainability and community development. This summer, Zach is working on commercial and mixed-use residential projects. When he’s not working, he enjoys kayaking and anything else outdoors. He is expected to graduate in 2024.
