On May 29, Landscape Architecture Manager Shirah Kasongo Cahill and Project Architect Jim Vekasy joined Kendal at Ithaca to celebrate the grand opening of the Ithaca Falls Café.
Kendal at Ithaca, a not-for-profit continuing care retirement community in New York’s Finger Lakes, developed a Master Plan to improve their campus and foster healthy living through urban design strategies. The first project identified was the Ithaca Falls Café renovation.
The project included an adjacent exterior terrace featuring paving for spill-out dining, a retractable fabric awning for environmental comfort, a vertical garden wall with hanging planters, and lounge seating with cantilevered umbrellas. A new door location eases access to the exterior space and the enhanced program will increase time spent outdoors.
SWBR provided architecture, interior design, and landscape architecture design services for the project.
