Our design team was on hand October 2 to celebrate the groundbreaking for the new high school campus of Eugenio Maria de Hostos Charter School (EMHCS) in Rochester. EMHCS serves bilingual, K-12 students and is the longest running charter school in the county.
The new building, going up next to the existing school, will have room for 100 ninth graders and up to 300 tenth through 12th graders. The project also includes restoring a former church, located on the school grounds, into a three-story ninth grade academy, building a permanent two-story home for grades 10-12, and creating a new Section V gymnasium—bridging the buildings to form a connected campus.
Once complete, the school will have room to serve more 9-12 grade students. The project is expected to complete in fall of 2026. SWBR is providing architecture, civil engineering, interior design, and landscape architecture design services for the project, a design-build project with Hamilton Stern Construction.
