Special Touch Bakery has been providing training and job opportunities for people with disabilities and providing the community with delicious pies for 35 years. A division of Holy Childhood, the bakery is celebrating the grand opening of its new location on Mt. Read Boulevard Tuesday. Ashley Doerzbacher visited the new, state-of-the-art facility and helped make some pies this morning, and also introduced us to some of the people who help bake those famous pies.
The 20,000 square-foot bakery will offer competitive, community-based employment and training opportunities where co-workers with and without disabilities will work side-by-side. The bakery expands upon the legacy of the pie-baking operation that has served as vocational training at Holy Childhood for more than 30 years.
“We are so proud to see this enterprise come to fruition,” said Donna Dedee, President and CEO of Holy Childhood. “It is an opportunity to celebrate people’s abilities, as they work together in a common purpose to make the Special Touch Bakery successful.”
