American Packaging Flexible Packaging Manufacturing Facility

APC, headquartered in Rochester, is North America’s largest packaging company with printing operations in Iowa and Wisconsin. In 2016, APC announced a multi-phased Rochester expansion, with SWBR and The PIKE Company as the design/build team for Phase I – a 215,000 SF satellite flexographic printing facility for food packaging. APC bought a 40-acre site in Chili, abutting a highly travelled, residential area. The design addressed the facility’s impact on the community, ecology, and environment – from traffic to pollution to aesthetics. Wetlands drove structural design, ensuring the plant could withstand the weight of heavy equipment. Food, employee, and environmental safety dictated process design. Subsequent phases designed by SWBR increased the facility to over 400,000 square feet.
