Chapel of Peace Mausoleum

SWBR designed the 14,000 GSF Chapel of Peace Mausoleum at the City of Rochester’s Riverside Cemetery. The one-story building houses 2,100 caskets and 1,800 cremation remain niches and features a central chapel, capable of accommodating 70 people for services. The building features a wide variety of entombment and inurnment options including interior rooms, chapel locations, and exterior gardened courtyards. Sustainability was a key focus during the design process resulting in abundant daylight, a geothermal heating and cooling system, as well as a selection of products manufactured off site to minimize construction waste.  From the outset, the architectural design focused on making strong connections to the existing grounds of Riverside Cemetery, while providing a warm and uplifting space for visitation.
