AIM Photonics TAP Facility Headquarters
The American Institute for Manufacturing Integrated Photonics (AIM Photonics) is a consortium of academic, government and business entities focused on advancing US photonics manufacturing capabilities for photonic circuits used in datacom, telecom, medical, defense, and other applications. In 2016, their central hub located to Rochester, with SWBR and LeChase Construction chosen to design, engineer and build their Test, Assembly and Packaging (TAP) Facility Headquarters.
The TAP Facility is located on the 4th and 5th floors of ON Semiconductor, which were totally gutted for new offices, a conference center, labs and Class 1000 cleanrooms, along with support, utility and employee spaces. The building was structurally reinforced to bear the weight of $40M in new manufacturing equipment and tools, with a new point of entry engineered and designed to get the massive equipment into the building and onto the upper floors. Infrastructure was modernized to meet new high-tech needs.
The offices are expected to open this year; the labs and cleanrooms by early 2018. When finished, the TAP Facility will begin work on approved member projects that will reshape industry and economy.
