Colorado State University Laser Lab Facility
New building to support one of the world's most powerful lasers.
The Center for Advanced Laser and Extreme Photonics at CSU’s Foothills Campus researches ultra-high intensity lasers, fusion energy, and nanoscale metrology. It advances x-ray and particle beam applications in medicine and material science and develops advanced optical coatings and soft x-ray lasers for precise measurement. The new facility, featuring a multi-Peta-watt laser, ranks among the world’s most powerful. With reinforced concrete and specialized HVAC, it supports fusion energy research, plasma diagnostics, and target production, and includes a laser bay, target area, cleanroom labs, and a control room for operating three lasers simultaneously. Once complete, this building will support the university’s mission and potentially drive economic development in Northern Colorado.
