Canal Village

The South James neighborhood in Rome, NY had become a blighted and distressed community in need of TLC. Many buildings were missing, those remaining were neglected and the streets and walkways were in a state of disrepair. The Canal Village development stabilized the neighborhood by re-establishing the urban fabric and creating a critical mass with buildings by utilizing and complementing the vernacular aesthetic.

This ten-building project created 36 new energy efficient, contextually appropriate designed infill housing that have all the amenities for modern living. The revitalized community has encouraged area residents and businesses to invest more resources into the neighborhood.
