SWBR has received an Outstanding Project Award in educational facility design by Learning by Design magazine for the Wegman Family Science and Technology Center at McQuaid Jesuit. The project was recognized for its architectural and interior design, and for having next generation benchmark style design concepts and planning features.
Learning by Design’s distinguished spring 2019 jury of five architects and end-user’s applauded SWBR for its accomplishment in designing the Wegman Family Science and Technology Center. All projects included in this edition are peer-reviewed, with the jury looking for unique and or new concepts that improve education facility building design. Educational facilities are scored on six core design criteria, including: Innovation, Meeting the Community’s Needs, Interior Design, Sustainability, Functional Design, and 21st Century Learning. The Jury comments about this project included: Good natural light throughout. Nice public spaces for collaboration. “X-Center” has ample natural light and helps to navigate changing elevations and organize circulation while providing varied collaboration space. Enclosed collaboration rooms provide quiet small group/individual learning space.
The Wegman Family Science and Technology Center, completed in November 2017, houses 10 classrooms and computer labs, a student life area complete with outdoor commons, campus ministry rooms, and an atrium that serves as a collaboration space for students.
