SWBR has designed a $7.2 million Day Shelter for the Syracuse Rescue Mission that will, for the first time, open the shelter to women as well as men. Serving as the lead architect, we were responsible for moving the shelter and day center to the recreation center, which opened the shelter for more single rooms.
This new building at the Rescue is located at 122 Dickerson St. in Syracuse and will be open 24 hours. The renovations added 51 beds to make the total number of beds onsite 183. It houses mental health services, health services, access to iPads, laundry and a fitness center in the new building.
The Day Center provides a gathering place for residents of the Rescue Mission as well as members of the local community and provides space for activities, leisure, employment assistance and medical care.
