The Advanced Manufacturing Center will be a 16,800 SF one-story building that will support three programs: Freshman Welding, Senior Welding and Senior Machining, each with their own lab space. The building will include: classrooms, computer room, metrology room, offices, gallery, prep room, manifold room, storage and receiving. These spaces are categorized and separated by “clean” and “dirty” functions. The clean spaces will be located at one end of the building and the dirty spaces at the opposite end, with the 3 labs located in between. There is a strong desire for a high performance envelope for a future goal for the building to become a “Net Zero” energy user. Exterior materials are planned to have high R-values / low U-values and shall minimize thermal bridges. As well, there is a need for the envelope system/materials to allow for relatively fast construction. The interior is being designed to be durable and cleanable to support the functions of welding, machining and material handling.
