SWBR Architects has been working with The Summit Federal Credit Union since 2004 to assist with their plans for branch expansion throughout the Rochester and Buffalo, NY areas. Together SWBR and The Summit defined a program for success which physically represents the values of the client while additionally serving as a marketing and branding opportunity.
The Penfield and Clarence branches were developed as prototypes for the remainder of branches in the expansion program. SWBR started the design process by getting to know The Summit Federal Credit Union. We held staff meetings to explore values, ideas, and metrics for success.
The Irondequoit Branch was named BEST NEW BUILDING for 2009 by the Irondequoit Chamber of Commerce’s Beautification Committee. The 3,850 SF branch features six teller stations plus a drive-through for teller transactions and a drive-up ATM.
The Summit’s Brighton branch was awarded USGBC LEED Silver Certification for its achievements in sustainable design. Primary sustainable features of the branch include a ground source geothermal heating and cooling system, abundant natural light, and its location within a dense neighborhood development. The systems will provide comfort and efficiency; reducing energy usage by 38%.
Hanging in the vestibule and visible from the street is a sculpture by local artist Scott Groove. The sculpture named Deciduous Life represents tree leaves, growth, and life. The project has also been awarded the Brighton Chamber of Commerce’s annual BUILDING PRIDE IN BRIGHTON AWARD.
“We’re thrilled to continue our relationship with SWBR and for our continued plan for growth in the Rochester area,” said Michael Vadala, President and CEO of The Summit. “This new signature-design, full-service locations will allow us to better serve our current and future members as we add convenient branches to our network.”
SWBR has designed all of The Summit’s new branches including Penfield, Clarence, Hilton, Rochester, Irondequoit, Brighton, and North Buffalo. SWBR has also served as the lead architect on the design and construction documentation of Syracuse area branch renovations.
