Rochester Institute of Technology‘s new $36M Golisano Institute of Sustainability serves as a center for sustainability research, technology transfer, education and outreach and provides a state-of-the-art showcase for green construction and design.
The institute also conducts cutting-edge research in nanotechnology, alternative energy development and validation, sustainable design and pollution prevention and works with a host of businesses and state and federal agencies including Xerox Corp., Eastman Kodak Co., General Motors, Staples, the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, the U.S. Department of Defense and the U.S. Department of Transportation.
SWBR Architects served as the Architect of Record and Leader of the design team within a Design-Build Team Structure to design the Beyond Platinum LEED building. The concept of a “Living Lab” was developed by the team to allow the building itself to be a testing ground for sustainable technologies and renewable energy sources.
