Transformation and collaboration were the key objectives for the renovation of Nixon Peabody’s headquarters in Rochester. The challenge was to design a space that blends a 20-year-old traditional law office and the progressive thinking of Nixon Peabody, while maintaining a budget and accelerated schedule.
Nixon Peabody occupies approximately 153,000 square feet at Clinton Square. This renovation created a fresh look reflective of a global law firm, resulting in a total transformation of the 13th floor, which consists of the main reception/conference center.
To allow for day lighting in common spaces, conference rooms were pulled away from the exterior windows. This allowed for additional light to penetrate internal spaces, and inner conference rooms were designed with glass walls. Small seating areas were created for impromptu collaborations to occur spontaneously amongst the staff and clients.
An additional challenge was connectivity between floors. The introduction of a new contemporary stair now connects the 13th and 14th floors, allowing direct access to the larger conference rooms and breakout spaces from the floors below.
On the practice floors, a blend of traditional and progressive occurred. Each floor received new interior finishes and functional spaces. The new lighting on each floor gives new life to dark circulation spaces while accenting premier artwork.
