SWBR renovated the iconic Smyth Hall at Nazareth College, transforming it into the new home for the Department of Nursing. Building-wide infrastructure improvements were planned as the existing second floor interior of the 1940’s building was significantly renovated to enhance student education and the overall learning experience in Nazareth's fully accredited nursing program. The project included academic and office renovations as well as the addition of two 8-bed nursing skills laboratories. Three state-of-the-art patient simulation laboratories accommodate four learning stations around a central control room. These spaces provide hands-on learning with sophisticated, computer-controlled, patient simulation mannequins that emulate real-world conditions, and improve learning and retention results for students.
The nursing faculty and their student and teaching spaces are now located on a single floor, vastly improving efficiency. The density also enabled the incorporation of new breakout and collaboration areas to energize students and open up the previously opaque architecture.
With high-tech interaction and display areas, this renovation reflects a new culture and student experience in Smyth Hall that will better prepare today’s students for tomorrow’s careers.
