DePaul’s Single Room Occupancy (SRO) Program is a 48,810 SF 75-bed community that is specifically designed to offer permanent housing in a service-enriched setting to seriously and persistently mentally ill adults. The program is licensed by the New York State Office of Mental Health.
Kensington Square offers a welcoming residential atmosphere with living common areas, lounges and an enclosed outdoor courtyard for increased socialization opportunities. There are 75 fully-furnished individual rooms each with a single bed, individual bathroom with a shower stall, microwave, sink, refrigerator, color TV, strobe-wired fire alarm system and a locking door.
SWBR worked closely with DePaul to minimize the institutional character of the residence and provide an environment that meets the stated preferences of prospective residents for safety and privacy. The balance was providing the best possible design response to the social goals of the program while keeping within OMH funding parameters.
