SWBR Architects designed the new 14,000 GSF Chapel of Peace Mausoleum at the City of Rochester’s Riverside Cemetery. The one-story building houses 2,100 caskets and 1,800 cremation-remain niches, and features a central chapel capable of accommodating 70 people for services. The building will feature a wide variety of entombment and inurnment options, including interior rooms, chapel locations and exterior gardened courtyards. Sustainability was a key focus during the design process, resulting in abundant daylight, a geothermal heating and cooling system, and selection of products manufactured off site to minimize construction waste. From the outset, the architectural design focused on making strong connections to the existing grounds of Riverside Cemetery, while providing a warm and uplifting space for visitation.
