SWBR Holds 5th Annual Campus Sustainability Day

Friday, October 26, 2012

SWBR recently hosted a tour and discussion on sustainable design for existing buildings at Monroe Community College’s award-winning, LEED Gold, Gleason Hall for Science and Technology.  This is the fifth year SWBR has held the conference. Representatives from several local colleges and universities participated in a building tour and had a presentation from Harvard University about ideas to reduce their campuses carbon footprint and re-evaluating how to renovate existing buildings for today’s students and current pedagogy.

Heze Simmons, CFO and Vice President of Administrative Services at MCC kicked off the event with a history of MCC’s growth and their pursuit of sustainable design practices on the campus. SWBR is working with local campus communities to see how we can “keep the discussion going” amongst our peers to learn from one another on how best to implement green practices and measure the results for future generations.  If you would like to be involved in future discussions, please contact SWBR’s Sustainability Planner, Liesel Schwarz at lschwarz@swbr.com.
